U.S. House panel proposes moving FTC antitrust work to DOJ in budget package

The U.S. House of Representatives Judiciary Committee on Monday said it proposed transferring the Federal Trade Commission’s antitrust work to the Department of Justice as part of a budget reconciliation package.

The proposal would allocate funds for moving staff and cases from the FTC to the DOJ and mirrors a Republican bill. If passed, the proposal would upend decades of the two agencies’ sharing authority to enforce U.S. laws against anticompetitive business behavior.
