Maharashtra govt reiterates resolve to improve transport infrastructure – ET TravelWorld

Maharashtra government has reiterated its resolve to further strengthen the transport infrastructure with the completion of metro railway and sea links. According to the Economic Survey for 2024-25, nearly 5.60 lakh passengers on an average travelled per day in the 11.40 km Metro Line 1 (Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar) (11.40 km length).

On Metro Line 2A (Dahisar-D.N. Nagar) (18.6 km length) and Metro Line 7 (Andheri (E)- Dahisar (E)) (16.5 km length), nearly 1.52 lakh passengers on an average travelled per day.

Metro Line 3 (Coloba-Bandra-SEEPZ) (12.69 km length) – Phase I Aarey to BKC has been opened for traffic from October, 2024: During 2024-25, an average number of passengers travelled per day is 21,693. The second phase will be completed soon as the trial runs have been completed.

As far as Pune Metro Rail Project is concerned, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation to Swargate of Corridor I and Vanaz to Ramwadi of Corridor II) (33.28 km length)are operational and about 1.20 lakh passengers travelled per day during the current fiscal.

In the 40.02 km Nagpur Metro Rail Project, around 90,000 passengers travelled per day. On the other hand, about 13,613 passengers travelled per day in the 11.10 km Navi Mumbai Metro (CBD Belapur to Pendhar).

Moreover, the southbound traffic lane from Bandra Worli Sea Link to Princess Street flyover and the northbound traffic lane from Marine Drive to Bandra Worli Sea Link to Mumbai Coastal Road project (South) was opened to traffic from January this year. The construction of Bandra-Versova sea link is being carried out.

The government is promoting Electric Vehicles in the state. The number of battery EV registered in the state up to December 2024 was 6,44,779 against 3,39,337 up to December 2023. The total number of vehicles on road as on January 1 this year was 488 lakh (149 vehicles per km road length) as against 458 lakh (141 vehicles per km road length) on January 1 last year.
