Amadeus reveals travel trends for 2025: Asia leads global tourism revival – ET TravelWorld

5 Min Read

Amadeus, a global leader in travel technology, has published its 2025 Travel Trends report, in collaboration with travel forecasting agency Globetrender. The report highlights key trends that are expected to shape global tourism in the coming years, with Asia playing a pivotal role in driving the recovery and growth of the travel sector.

After years of restricted travel, there is significant excitement surrounding the rediscovery of Asia’s cultural treasures. Countries like China, with its expanded visa-free travel options, and Thailand, which is offering digital nomad visas along with a broader visa-free program for 93 countries, are set to attract a wide array of international travelers. Popular culture is also contributing to this momentum, with TV shows such as The White Lotus in Thailand and the renewed interest in South Korea following the success of Squid Game. Additionally, Japan is experiencing a resurgence in interest due to shows like Shōgun, which explore the country’s rich history. The introduction of direct flights between Madrid and Tokyo is further facilitating access to Japan, making it easier for travelers to explore the country.

Amadeus data supports the projection that Asia Pacific will see the fastest growth in passenger numbers over the next 15 years, with the region expected to account for more than half of the net global increase in travelers by 2043. This growth is already evident, with cities like Chengdu, Guangzhou, and Delhi experiencing notable increases in outbound travel in recent years.

One key trend for 2025 is the resurgence of nostalgia, as travelers increasingly seek to relive past experiences. Many are drawn to destinations that evoke memories of previous decades or significant life events, such as gap years or childhood vacations. This is reflected in a broader cultural trend, with retro influences seen in everything from 90s films and fashion to the revival of classic hobbies like photography with digital cameras. Additionally, some travelers are seeking the return of classic holiday formats, such as caravanning or camping trips, as they look for simpler, more grounded travel experiences.

Air travel is also evolving with a greater emphasis on personalization. In 2025, airlines are expected to offer more customized in-flight experiences by leveraging technology to provide tailored content and services based on individual passenger preferences. With the widespread availability of high-speed Wi-Fi and advancements in virtual reality, passengers will be able to enjoy a more immersive and personalized flying experience. This trend is set to reshape the way travelers engage with air travel, enhancing both comfort and convenience.

Hotels are also set to transform in 2025, with a focus on immersive experiences that allow guests to connect with the local culture, history, and environment. Many hotels are evolving into destinations in their own right, offering unique stays that reflect the surrounding region’s heritage and natural beauty. Properties across Asia, for example, are leading this trend, with a growing number of hotels offering guests the opportunity to experience authentic local traditions through design, architecture, and service.

Finally, the rise of digital fatigue is driving a renewed focus on face-to-face connections, with many travelers seeking more authentic, offline experiences. Solo travel, particularly for leisure, has increased significantly in recent years, and more travelers are opting for group and solo adventures that allow them to meet new people and form meaningful connections. This trend is also reflected in the growth of festival tourism in regions like Asia, where events like Bali’s Arts Festival and India’s Holi Festival provide opportunities for cultural exchange and social engagement.

In summary, 2025 will see travelers increasingly drawn to destinations and experiences that offer authentic connections, personal engagement, and a blend of nostalgic charm with modern luxury. Asia’s role as a key driver of global tourism growth is clear, with the region offering a diverse range of opportunities to meet the evolving demands of travelers.
