Activists demand Andhra Pradesh government to cancel hotel project in Tirupati – ET TravelWorld

Activists of some Hindu outfits staged sit-in protests and went on indefinite hunger strike in front of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) administrative building in Tirupati on Wednesday, demanding the govt to cancel the site allocated to Oberoi group to set up a five-star resort hotel at Alipiri near Tirupati.

The previous govt has allocated 20 acres of land to the Oberoi group for the project. However, the new trust board constituted by the TDP-led NDA govt passed a resolution in Nov last year to ask the govt to cancel the land allocation.

Though the govt is yet to take a final call on the issue, sources said the district administration, Tirupati urban development authority (TUDA), and Tirupati municipal corporation have been asked to accord the necessary approvals for the project within the decided timelines.

As per initial plans, the group plans to build a 100-room five-star hotel in the first phase, which would be operational by 2027. The second phase of the project is scheduled to be completed by 2030, in which 25 more rooms and other attractions would be added. Andhra Pradesh tourism development corporation allocated 20 acres along the Alipiri-Cherlopalli stretch abutting the Tirumala hills to Oberoi group for a period of 90-plus years in 2021-22.
