In a report released this International Women’s Day, Airbnb highlights the growing success of women hosts in India. Nearly 30 per cent of hosts on the platform are women, who collectively earned INR 2.6 billion in 2024. These hosts contribute significantly to India’s hospitality sector, providing unique and welcoming experiences that reflect the changing dynamics of the industry.
Around 35 per cent of the Guest Favourite listings in India were hosted by women, a clear indication of their growing influence and expertise in the hospitality sector. The trend reflects not only the increasing presence of women in the industry but also their success in creating positive, memorable experiences for travellers.
Amanpreet Singh Bajaj, Airbnb’s Country Head for India and Southeast Asia, noted, “Women hosts are not only driving the growth of the platform but are also achieving financial independence through hospitality. This shift highlights the important role women play in shaping India’s travel and tourism landscape.”
Additionally, Airbnb reports a rise in bookings from female travellers, particularly Millennials, who were the largest demographic in 2024, followed by Gen Z. Among Indian women travellers, duo travel and group trips have become the most popular modes of travel, with short, immersive trips being the preference.
Goa, Delhi, Bengaluru, Pune, and Jaipur emerged as the top domestic destinations for Indian women, while London, Dubai, Bangkok, Paris, and Rome led international choices. Tbilisi, Georgia, saw a significant increase in bookings, reflecting a growing interest in less traditional destinations.
