The Henley Passport Index for 2024 highlights Japan’s passport as the most powerful, offering visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 193 destinations, maintaining its leading position.

India’s passport ranks 61st, allowing visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 60 countries, up from the previous year, showing incremental progress in global mobility.

Among Asian countries, Singapore, South Korea, and Japan lead the ranks, while India improves its position within the regional context but still lags behind some of its neighbors.

Countries like Afghanistan and Iraq are positioned at the bottom of the index, reflecting significant travel restrictions compared to other nations.

The Henley Passport Index, based on data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), tracks the ability of passport holders to access countries without requiring a visa.

The index illustrates shifting global mobility trends, influenced by geopolitical and economic factors, impacting how easily citizens can travel internationally.

The Indian passport’s rise in rank indicates gradual improvements in international relations and visa agreements, enhancing travel freedom for Indian citizens.
