Taiwan’s tourism sector continues its post-pandemic resurgence, with visitor arrivals from India registering a significant 19.46 per cent increase during the first ten months of 2024. According to the latest data from the Taiwan Tourism Administration (TTA), a total of 31,766 Indian travellers visited Taiwan between January and October 2024, marking a robust rise from 26,591 visitors recorded during the same period in 2023.
International arrivals to Taiwan also soared to 6,206,267 visitors for January–October 2024, reflecting a 24.55 per cent growth compared to 4,983,081 international arrivals during the corresponding months in 2023. With two months left in the year, TTA expects total Indian arrivals to surpass 38,000, while overall international visitor numbers are projected to reach around 7.5 million by year-end. Taiwan had recorded 6.48 million international arrivals in 2023.
Paul Shih, Director of TTA’s Singapore Office, emphasised India’s growing significance: “India is our leading South Asian market in terms of both visitor numbers and spending. Our focused marketing initiatives, including trade roadshows, travel exhibitions, media and influencer familiarization trips, and digital activations, have contributed significantly to our success in 2024. We aim to enhance these efforts with even greater impact in 2025.”
Shih highlighted Taiwan’s unique appeal: “Taiwan delivers incredible value to travellers. Despite its compact size of just over 36,000 square kilometers and its dense population of 23 million, Taiwan boasts world-class infrastructure and a rich cultural and culinary heritage. From modern cityscapes to traditional temples, vibrant nightlife to thrilling outdoor adventures, Taiwan offers an unparalleled travel experience.”The impressive growth in Indian visitor numbers cements India’s position as Taiwan’s top South Asian market and one of the island nation’s top 20 source markets globally. “While India’s overall outbound travel growth in 2024 is estimated at 10-11 per cent, travel to Taiwan has nearly doubled this pace, growing at almost 20 per cent,” Shih noted.
In a bid to further strengthen Taiwan’s tourism appeal, TTA has launched a global brand positioning campaign, ‘Taiwan – Waves of Wonder.’ Designed to engage travellers across all seasons, the initiative seeks to drive demand, accelerate inbound tourism, and fully revitalise the sector. With an ambitious target of 10 million international tourist arrivals, Taiwan is poised for another year of strong growth in global tourism.
