South Africa and India mark 30 years of diplomatic relations and democracy, South African Minister of Tourism Patricia de Lille will visit India in December 2024. Her week-long trip will include engagements in New Delhi and Mumbai, focusing on enhancing tourism cooperation and fostering mutual growth.
Key discussions with Indian officials will center on simplifying visa processes, boosting air connectivity, exploring AI-driven tourism solutions, and promoting rural tourism. Minister de Lille will also meet technology and VFS representatives to learn from India’s advancements in digital innovation.
Under the theme “30 Years of Diplomatic Relations, 30 Years of Democracy,” the Minister will address dignitaries at a special event highlighting sustainable and accessible tourism. Additional engagements include a dinner with leaders from Indian corporations such as Air India, Indigo, and Tata Group, alongside discussions with sports stakeholders to explore collaborative opportunities The visit also emphasises broader bilateral cooperation in sectors like infrastructure, energy, ICT, and agriculture, while celebrating cultural ties through visits to heritage sites.
South African Tourism CEO Nombulelo Guliwe acknowledged the significance of the visit, describing it as an opportunity to deepen the long-standing partnership between the two nations.
Guliwe highlighted the shared commitment to fostering collaboration, cultural exchange, and economic growth. Minister de Lille’s exploration of India’s cultural heritage underscores the historical connections between the countries and aims to strengthen ties in tourism and beyond, paving the way for a collaborative and prosperous future.
