EXCLUSIVE: A documentary about a senior citizen who started livestreaming her jigsaw puzzle sessions on Twitch after facing loneliness in her golden years has found an interesting home.
Livestreams with GrandmaPuzzles has been picked up by Switchboard magazine, a digital publication founded by Celia Aniskovich that combines long-form journalism and documentaries.
Aniskovich has produced documentaries including Max’s Call Me Cleo and Beanie Mania and launched Switchboard at the beginning of the year. Its most recent issue includes Aniskovich’s own The Queen of the Infomericial and Adam Robb’s Bad Egg as well as Sk8rgls, a film by Florence Fong, Hope Middleton and Jean Zamora.
Other recent films include Where There Are No Words from Gabriella Canal, Deerwoods Deathtrap by James P. Gannon and Kathryn Prescott’s Gina.
Livestreams with GrandmaPuzzles will air later this year after its festival run, which includes a spot at Aspen Shortsfest, where it took home a special mention in documentary.
It stars Adele, who found unexpected connection by livestreaming her jigsaw puzzle sessions. What started as a solitary pastime soon blossomed into a vibrant, supportive online community — with Adele at the very center. The short is directed by Emily Sheskin.
The idea for Switchboard is to turn its journalism into film and TV projects and it is exploring the potential for a narrative adaptation of Livestreams with GrandmaPuzzles.
“Puzzling has been a huge part of Adele’s life. It connected her with family during the good times and became an outlet during the hard ones. Now, it’s helping her find new friends — and a new sense of purpose — through the internet,” said Sheskin. “The internet can so often be a toxic space and I’ve been craving reminders that it can also foster lifelong friendships and community. When I met Adele — known as GrandmaPuzzles to her growing fanbase — I immediately fell in love with her generous spirit, unending joy, and her powerful story. I hope audiences will too.”
“Adele’s story is a beautiful reminder that connection, creativity, and community can flourish in even the most unexpected of places,” added Celia Aniskovich, Editor-in-Chief and Founder of Switchboard Magazine. “Emily’s film captures everything we believe in at Switchboard — celebrating extraordinary real people and uplifting diverse voices through powerful, character-driven storytelling. We’re honored to be one piece of the puzzle helping to bring Adele’s journey to a wider audience.”
