To promote tourism in Chikkamagaluru’s Narasimharaja Pura, the KSTDC is developing a resort near the Bhadra backwaters. The INR 10 crore project, spanning three acres, at Halemakodu, is expected to boost local tourism. The land near the bridge is being built to connect Honnekoodige village to the Bhadra backwaters in the Halemakodu area of the taluk, is reserved for the resort.
M Srinivas, chairman of the state tourism development corporation, said that a Detailed Project Report (DPR) was prepared for the construction of the resort. The proximity of the Bhadra backwaters to the bridge makes it an ideal location. The DC transferred three acres of revenue department land to the tourism corporation. Designs were created for a theme park, children’s park, and cottages, that is planned on the land. Facilities for water sports and boating will also be provided, he added.
A request was made to construct a check dam alongside the bridge, to ensure year-round water retention in the backwaters. The project plan was drafted and sent for govt approval. In addition, a nature park and 10 cottages have been planned at the Kusagal village. The KSTDC, in collaboration with the forest department, designed the project, and a DPR was prepared to spend between INR 15 to INR 20 crore here, Srinivas informed.
MLA TD Rajegowda has shown interest, and the Public Works Minister released Rs 5 crore for road development from the Honnekoodige connection bridge to the town’s tourist centre. Work will commence soon. The construction of the Honnekoodige bridge, costing INR 35 crore, is progressing rapidly, and chief minister Siddaramaiah is expected to inaugurate it within three months, he said.
