The Indian Hotels Company (IHCL), India’s largest hospitality company, has announced its latest project in Mysore, signing an agreement to open a Taj hotel in the city. This marks the iconic Taj brand’s debut in Mysore and underscores IHCL’s strategic expansion plans across key Indian markets. The new hotel will be a conversion project and is expected to strengthen the company’s presence in Karnataka, further supporting its growth ambitions.
Commenting on the signing, Suma Venkatesh, Executive Vice President, Real Estate & Development at IHCL, noted, “Driven by the growing presence of the manufacturing and IT sectors, Mysore, an established leisure destination, is now fast becoming a diversified hospitality market. As a gateway to destinations like Coorg, Kabini, Bandipur, and Ooty, it attracts both domestic and international travellers. The signing of this hotel reflects our commitment to expanding the Taj brand in key markets across India.”
Situated at the foot of Chamundi Hills and offering views of the Mysore Palace, the 141-key Taj Mysore will offer a mix of regal Indo-Sarcenic architecture that complements the historical charm of the city. The hotel will be located in a prime area, adjacent to the Mall of Mysore and surrounded by views of the Mysore Zoo and a lush golf estate. Guests will have access to a range of amenities, including an all-day dining restaurant, a specialty restaurant, a bar, a lounge, and wellness facilities such as a spa, gym, and swimming pool. The hotel will also feature a spacious banqueting area of over 11,000 sq. ft., perfect for corporate and social events. Sushen Mohan Gupta, Director of DM South India Hospitality Pvt. Ltd., shared, “We are delighted to grow our association with IHCL, India’s true custodians of hospitality. Taj Mysore will cater to the growing demand for luxury hospitality and I am confident it will enhance the tourism potential of the city.”
Mysore, known for its historical significance and cultural heritage, is famous for its monuments, palaces, and vibrant traditions. Key attractions such as the Mysore Palace, Chamundi Hills, and Brindavan Gardens attract tourists from around the world. With this addition, IHCL will have 23 hotels in Karnataka, including 10 currently under development.
