Goa’s tourism sector has taken a significant step forward with the success of the Goa Taxi App, a government-backed platform that has revolutionised local transport services. Since its launch, the app has facilitated over 70,000 rides and onboarded more than 1,000 drivers, creating a unified, transparent system for both locals and tourists.
The service began with the launch of a taxi counter at Manohar International Airport on January 5, 2023, providing immediate access to regulated taxi services. It expanded to Margao Railway Station on October 16, 2023, followed by the release of a mobile application, enabling passengers to book taxis, track rides in real-time, and access a network of verified drivers.
Key features of the Goa Taxi App include online taxi registration, real-time ride updates, dynamic fare calculation based on government-notified rates, and multiple payment options including digital wallets, UPI, and cash. The platform also offers an SOS feature for enhanced safety.
For drivers, the app provides a digital marketplace, fair compensation, and the flexibility to set working hours. High-rated drivers receive more trip opportunities, and convenience fees are directed towards welfare schemes for operators.
Director of Tourism, Kedar Naik, stated, “The Goa Taxi App is not just a technological innovation; it is a commitment to creating an inclusive, efficient, and safe transport ecosystem that benefits all stakeholders.”
