Totoy Corp., the children’s media company behind the breakout animated series José Totoy and Sara, has signed with Gersh to help facilitate a global expansion, following success in Latin American markets.
Founded by André Vaz and Isa Albuquerque in 2015, Totoy’s flagship series, José Totoy, is the kind of children’s fare that has bolstered the success of streaming services from Netflix to Disney to Prime Video, which are looking to maximize engagement. Since 2020, it’s charted as one of the Top 10 Most Watched Children’s Shows on Prime Video in Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Argentina and Chile, also charting in Netflix’s Global Top 10, while only being available on the service in select countries.
Available in over 30 languages, José Totoy has over three billion views on YouTube, with more than 46 million followers across its network of channels. As with programming across the Totoy portfolio, its aim has been to offer entertainment with educational value, promoting healthy living and positive values among children.
The show follows the adventures of José, a cheerful and curious character, along with his best friends —Obi, a playful rabbit, and Kim, a curious monkey. Together, they embark on imaginative journeys that teach children about friendship, environmental responsibility, and the joys of healthy eating.
Totoy’s impact goes beyond screens, extending into real-world initiatives that reflect its commitment to global learning and child welfare, including programs with various schools and museums. The company is also a proud partner of the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund and was the first to work alongside the organization to deliver Covid-19 education for children during the early stages of the pandemic.
“This partnership marks a significant step in Totoy’s mission to inspire and educate children worldwide,” said Totoy Corp’s CEO and Co-Founder, André Vaz. “With Gersh’s expertise, we’re excited to bring our stories to new audiences and continue our commitment to meaningful children’s entertainment. We look forward to expanding our stories to inspire even more young minds worldwide.”
Commented Jay Cohen, Partner and Head of Film Finance, and agent Auri Maruri, of Gersh, “Toytoy’s remarkable success across Latin America and Brazil is a testament to the universal appeal of its stories. With its flagship series topping charts on Prime Video, YouTube, and Netflix, the demand for Totoy’s content is clear. We’re thrilled to partner with Totoy to expand its reach globally, building on this strong foundation to inspire and entertain children around the world.”
Totoy will be on hand for meetings at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival as the company plots its next moves.
