Universal Pictures and DreamWorks Animation have dated Forgotten Island, an original project from directors Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado for September 25, 2026. Crawford and Mercado will write and direct the feature film.
Forgotten Island will be produced by Crawford’s longtime collaborator, Mark Swift. Most recently, the pair received Academy Award®, BAFTA, and Golden Globe nominations for the critically acclaimed film Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. Forgotten Island marks their third collaboration. The film will also mark the directorial debut for Mercado, who also served as co-director on Puss in Boots: The Last Wish and head of story for Crawford on The Croods: A New Age.
Plot and details of the film are being kept under wraps, but the film is described as a broad party comedy adventure that transports the film’s protagonists to a long forgotten, magical island rooted in Philippine mythology.
