Air India has taken steps to tackle the fog season in Delhi and other regions of North India. Airlines experience poor visibility leading to disruptions in air traffic during the winters. This causes inconvenience to air travellers due to its impact on flight schedules across the nation.
The airline said that it has taken steps in addition to complying with regulatory guidance. To address disruptions caused by fog, Air India has adjusted flight schedules to minimise delays, particularly for long-haul and metro-to-metro routes with onward connections during foggy periods.
The airline is deploying additional staff at airports, including those likely to receive diverted flights, to reduce inconvenience during delays or diversions. It has also increased the number of CAT-3 trained pilots certified to operate in low-visibility conditions using the CAT-3 Instrument Landing System (ILS). Under its ‘Fog Care’ initiative, Air India will proactively inform passengers flying to and from Delhi about potential delays or cancellations, offering complimentary booking rescheduling or refunds.

Low cost airline Indigo had on November 21 taken similar steps to minimise disruptions during the winter season.
Poor or zero visibility makes it difficult for pilots to land or take off safely, impacting overall flight schedules. Strong wind bands, infrastructure limitations, airport congestion, and navigational challenges further contribute to operational disruptions, affecting both schedules and customer experience, Indigo had said.
