Mandya tourism department authorities have identified 106 new tourist destinations in the district and proposals were submitted to the govt for their development.
Each identified location has its own uniqueness, significance, and potential to attract tourists, department deputy director Raghavendra said at the tourism development committee meeting held at the DC’s office here on Thursday. Of them, 24 are in Srirangapatna, 18 are in Maddur, 12 in Mandya and 11 in Malavalli.
Deputy commissioner Kumara, who chaired the meeting, instructed officials that strict safety and security measures must be followed in homestays. The DC said in the interest of tourism development, officials should ensure that the owners of the four newly applied homestays obtain permission from the gram panchayat before granting them licences. He said existing homestays operating in the district must adhere to govt regulations and that quality health, hygiene, and fire safety standards must be thoroughly checked.
A special inspection team should be formed, consisting of the respective taluk’s executive officer, deputy director of the fire department, taluk health officer, local police inspectors, and the joint director of the food and civil supplies department, to conduct a proper assessment.
The DC said to encourage water sports and water adventure activities through public-private partnerships in the backwaters of reservoirs, five locations suitable for water sports in the district were identified. A team of experienced experts will be formed to evaluate whether the identified locations are appropriate and safe for water and adventure sports. Based on their evaluation, an e-tender will be initiated.
He said the pilgrimage accommodation buildings constructed in Mulukatte of Nagamangala taluk and Melukote of Pandavapura taluk will be maintained properly by inviting e-tenders.
Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer KR Nandini, Joint Director of the Food and Civil Supplies Department Krishnakumar, and District Family and Health Welfare Officer Dr K Mohan were present at the meeting, which highlighted the identification of 106 new tourist spots across the district. These destinations, aimed at boosting local tourism and cultural exploration, include 12 sites in Mandya, 11 in Malavalli, 18 in Maddur, 24 in Srirangapatna, 13 in Pandavapura, 10 in Nagamangala, and 18 in KR Pete. The initiative is expected to not only enhance the district’s tourism profile but also create livelihood opportunities for local communities.
