In a landmark move to uplift small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the travel and tourism sector, the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) has launched the “Together in Travel” SME initiative. The programme aims to equip SMEs with essential tools and knowledge to succeed in an increasingly competitive global market. VFS Global, a leader in visa services and travel technology, has proudly joined as a Founding Partner to support this groundbreaking initiative.
WTTC, the global body representing the private sector of the travel industry, represents over 200 companies, making up two-thirds of a trillion US dollars in turnover. The new initiative aims to address the challenges faced by SMEs and help them scale by providing them with opportunities for investment, training, and access to global markets. By supporting the sector’s most innovative players, WTTC seeks to foster cost-effective growth and sustainability across the travel ecosystem.
VFS Global, with more than two decades of expertise in visa processing and digital transformation, will play an instrumental role in expanding the programme’s reach. The company’s global network, spanning over 150 countries, will enable SMEs to tap into new opportunities, encouraging growth and innovation at the local level. The partnership also focuses on inclusive growth, with VFS Global particularly committed to collaborating with local enterprises, women-owned businesses, and those from indigenous communities.
Julia Simpson, President & CEO of WTTC, expressed, “We are thrilled to have VFS Global as a Founding Partner for Together in Travel. Their industry leadership and vast network will be key in empowering SMEs to access the tools and knowledge they need to succeed in the global marketplace. This collaboration will enhance the resilience and inclusivity of the travel sector.”
VFS Global’s Founder and CEO, Zubin Karkaria, added, “This initiative is a powerful step in supporting SMEs, providing them with access to critical resources for sustainable growth. We’re proud to leverage our global presence to help these businesses thrive, enabling their contributions to the socio-economic development of the travel and tourism industry.”
The initiative’s offerings include access to global markets, specialized training programmes, digital transformation tools, and frameworks for sustainable business practices. The programme also brings together a network of experts from across the travel sector, including hospitality giants like Accor, Red Carnation Hotels, and MSC Cruises, as well as technology leaders like Microsoft and Trip.com.
The “Together in Travel” initiative is a transformative effort to create a more inclusive and sustainable future for global travel, ensuring SMEs can thrive in the rapidly evolving industry.
