EXCLUSIVE: Gold Tree, the parent company of Gold Tree Studios, has secured $1 billion in financing from Malka Group for its film, television, and animation slates.
Led by Gold Tree CEO and founder Tim Chonacas, the company will expand sound stages, equipment rentals, and post-production services in key tax-incentivized states to support its ongoing commitment to producing content across multiple platforms while offering world-class studio facilities.
“We’re incredibly grateful to Malka for their belief in our vision. This financing will allow us to expand our studio footprint in other states & territories and keep developing innovative projects across film, TV, and animation. We’re excited to give back to our community and bring film jobs back to LA as well,” said Tim Chonacas.
“Malka’s recognizes the strengths of partnering with Tim Chonacas, Gold Tree which exemplifies the agile, innovative spirit of independent production. We believe the company leverages a balanced ecosystem that drives creative breakthroughs and sustainable growth.” Said Moses Gross, CEO of Malka Group.
The first Gold Tree projects under the new fund are currently in pre-production including the TV series Blown and the horror film Final Trip, produced under its subsidiary Old Tree Films.
Final Trip rolls cameras in April, with both projects actively casting and scheduled to shoot in Los Angeles. Final Trip was also represented by Etchie Stroh with Moonstone Entertainment at EFM. Gold Tree looks to develop and produce at least 10 films per year within 3-30 million budgets across all genres.
The partnership with Malka followed the recent production of Lear Rex, for which Gold Tree provided full post-production VFX for the star-studded cast which counts Al Pacino, Jessica Chastain, Ariana DeBose, Rachel Brosnahan, Stephen Dorff, Danny Huston, and Peter Dinklage.
With the fund, Gold Tree Studios plans to establish additional production studios in tax-incentivized states to provide producers and creators with a one-stop hub for their production needs. Additionally, to support local productions, Gold Tree is acquiring stages to expand its post-production and studio rental facilities in LA to bring production back to the city.
Gold Tree previously announced the dark comedy Chili Finger, with a cast including John Goodman, Bryan Cranston, Judy Greer, and Sean Aston. Etchie Stroh of Moonstone Entertainment handled pre-sales at the EFM/Berlinale for Chili Finger. Other titles will be announced through 2025-2026 as film development and pre-production are launched.
