Fahd Hamidaddin, CEO of the Saudi Tourism Authority (STA), expressed excitement over the announcement, highlighting the country’s achievements in global tourism: “Saudi welcomed over 100 million visitors in 2023, making us the fastest-growing tourism destination in the G20. From the majestic mountains of Aseer to the shimmering Saudi Red Sea and the rich cultural tapestry of our cities, Saudi Arabia offers something for everyone. Hosting the FIFA World Cup provides an unparalleled opportunity to share our warmth and hospitality with the world.”
The 2034 tournament will be historic, being the first-ever FIFA World Cup with 48 teams hosted by a single nation. Saudi Arabia’s host cities—Riyadh, Jeddah, Al Khobar, Abha, and the futuristic NEOM—promise world-class stadiums, vibrant fan festivals, and diverse cultural offerings. Each city will showcase its unique charm, from Riyadh’s blend of modern entertainment and historical treasures to Jeddah’s coastal vibrancy and NEOM’s futuristic innovations.
In celebration of its successful bid, Saudi organised dynamic cultural showcases at international landmarks like London’s Piccadilly Circus and Dubai Mall, with flash mobs and exhibitions celebrating Saudi heritage. Domestically, iconic locations such as Salwa Palace and Hegra became the center of nationwide celebrations, reflecting the pride and excitement surrounding this achievement. A captivating short film launched by STA further invites the world to explore Saudi’s wonders.With over 1,800 km of pristine coastline, desert dunes, mountain canyons, and heritage sites like AlUla, Saudi Arabia offers football fans and travellers alike a year-round destination rich in culture and adventure. Efforts are underway to enhance flight connectivity, simplify visa processes, and provide a wide range of accommodations to cater to global visitors.
