Australia’s Kaylee McKeown Sets New Olympics Record In 100-Meter Backstroke

Australian swimmer Kaylee McKeown scripted history in the 100-meter backstroke in Paris.

McKeown completed the women’s 100-meter backstroke in 57.33 seconds to set a new Olympic record.

With this, McKeown succeeded in defending her Olympic gold medal.

She managed to surpass her own Olympic record of 57.47 seconds.

McKeown had set her previous record at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.

She joined Ariarne Titmus and Dawn Fraser to become the only Australian women to defend the Olympic titles.

McKeown faced current world record holders Regan Smith, Katharine Berkoff and Kylie Masse in Paris.

Smith was 0.33 seconds behind McKeown to register a second-place finish with 57.66.

Berkoff had clinched the bronze medal having clocked 57.98.

Canada’s Masse claimed the 4th place with 58.29.
